We hope you’ve been enjoying your summer. The Scholastic Awards is currently on its summer break. We ate taking this time to prepare for the opening of the 2025 New York City Scholastic Awards season. Teens, in grades 7-12, 13 years and older, are invited to enter original art and writing starting September 2024.
This past year, the New York City Scholastic Awards received over 13,000 works by more than 3,000 students in grades 7–12, representing nearly 300 schools from all five boroughs. After the Regional Gold Key Awards Ceremony on May 4, we showcased Gold Key art and writing at the High Line Nine Gallery, June 14-21. We are proud to say we had over 100 National Medalists, including, 34 Gold Medal and 28 Silver Medal Art winners, and 21 Gold Medal and 33 Silver Medal Writing winners.
In the meantime, here are a couple of ways you can stay engaged with us over the summer.
1. Stay in Touch! Check out the latest episode of our official podcast, Hall Pass
2. Familiarize Yourself with Scholastic Awards Resources. Browse through Scholastic Awards online resources like our Gallery, Classroom Guides, and extensive YouTube page, @ScholasticGoldKey.
3. Prepare to enter for the 2025 Scholastic Awards. Take process shots of your work. Take high-quality, well-lot images of your artwork. Add your art and writing work to a safe location like a Google Drive account, personal computer, or flash drive. Share access with a mentor, educator, family member, or friend and ask for feedback. As early, as September 2024, upload your original art and/or writing.
4. Chase the bag. If you are a rising senior, this is your chance to submit an art and/or writing portfolio to win $12,500 at the national level. Select and make final iterations of your 6 original works, begin drafting your personal statement and artist statement, and you may be one of the 2025 portfolio winners.
Artwork Return
Teens who dropped off original artwork for the High Line Nine Gallery exhibition, Get to Know Me, will be invited to pick up their art Thursday, September 5 through Friday, September 6, from 2 PM to 5 PM. And on Saturday, September 7, from 10 AM to 2 PM. For the first time, the NYC Scholastic Awards will be returning reproductions of artworks produced by our team. Therefore, teens who had an artwork featured at the exhibition but did not drop off their original artwork will also be asked to join us for the artwork return event.
